Water Purification - Reverse Osmosis / Deionization Units

Reverse osmosis, deionization units create purified water by forcing pressurized tap water through a semi-permeable membrane.  This membrane only allows very small molecules to pass through (such as H2O).  This effectively removes up to 99% of most water impurities (click for PDF file describing how Reverse Osmosis works   needs Adobe Acrobat reader adobe.bmp (3806 bytes) ).

It is highly recommended, especially when creating a salt-water reef system, due to the delicate nature of live corals and invertebrates.  All serious reef aquarists use RO DI water.
